From 19 to 26 October, the world's leading trade fair K will open its doors in Düsseldorf and become the global meeting place for groundbreaking innovations and developments from the plastics and packaging industry. We at Brückner Maschinenbau will once again be there and will present the latest highlights under our trade fair motto "Highend Film for a Better World".
The fight against climate change won't be possible without plastic packaging - produced in a way that conserves resources. Brückner Maschinenbau will be presenting faster and wider BO lines at K 2022 - because the more efficient and higher output a film stretching line is, the lower its specific energy consumption.
Faster and wider BO plants
The more efficient a film stretching line is, the lower the specific energy consumption. These parameters can mainly be influenced by the line speed and the line width.
BOPP and BOPET
In the production of the two most popular packaging films, BOPP and BOPET, the benchmark in production speed has so far been around 600m/min. At K, Brückner Maschinenbau will present new line concepts with significantly higher running speeds.
BOPA
The demand for BO films made of polyamide is continuously increasing. At K, Brückner Maschinenbau will present new line types with up to 80% more output – based on an increase in production speed from 220m/min to 350m/min and a line widening from 6.6m to 7.4m.
Battery separator films and capacitor films
In these segments, the previous line width of 5.5m is being increased step by step to over 6m and the associated increase in output of over 20%. In addition, both the sequential and the simultaneous stretching technology for capacitor films were further developed: the focus was on higher film yield and optimised film properties, especially for films in the 2 µm range.
Technical innovations for more sustainability in film production
Direct recycling
The edge trimmings and waste produced during production can be directly fed back into the extrusion process in a higher percentage. This saves energy, conserves raw material and comes very close to the goal of "zero waste" in production.
Intelligent stretching oven management
A patented, energy-efficient oven control system across all temperature zones of the stretching oven ensures an energy saving of around 1.6 million kWh per year.
Aerodynamic zone separation
The patented process guarantees even better and more uniform film quality across the entire working width. This increases the proportion of A-grade film on the winder, reduces production waste and lowers specific energy consumption.
Films for a better world
Best recyclability – minimal impact on the environment
Brückner Maschinenbau has developed mono-material packaging solutions together with raw material manufacturers, film producers, converters and brand owners to close the loop of plastic packaging. These coated and uncoated mono-material films with excellent mechanical and optical properties can replace previous multilayer films made of different materials. They are ideal for use in new packaging that is as pure as possible and guarantee good sortability in waste separation as well as the best recyclability. In addition to the proven materials BOPP and BOPET, BOPE opens up a new possibility.
In addition to the many partnerships in film development, Brückner Maschinenbau is also involved in other cooperative ventures. Just one example: In close cooperation with various partners, Brückner Maschinenbau has initiated the pilot project "Polypropylene chip bag", in order to show concretely which steps must be taken to make a chip bag recyclable. The way to achieve this is paved by the addition of the innovative data provision by R-Cycle and the associated improved identification and sorting.
As an alternative to raw materials based on crude oil, bio materials are increasingly being used for the manufacture of biaxially stretched packaging films. Brückner has vast experience with bio-based and bio-degradable film. Numerous trials on the Brückner pilot line have shown excellent results. And: One of the worldwide leading film manufacturers has been successfully producing BOPLA film on a modified Brückner line for many years.
