Toppan Speciality Films Successfully Commissions India’s First BOPP/PE Hybrid Line
India’s plastic film industry is increasingly turning its attention to sustainable monomaterial solutions. A recent milestone was achieved in July 2025, when Toppan Speciality Films successfully commissioned India’s first BOPP/PE hybrid line at its site in Chandigarh, northern India.
The 8.7-meter-wide hybrid line, supplied by Brückner Maschinenbau, enables flexible production of BOPP (Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene) and BOPE (Biaxially Oriented Polyethylene) films, paving the way for advanced recyclable packaging solutions.

With the new specialty line, Toppan impressively demonstrates how modern production technology can be specifically applied to manufacture monomaterial films. The ability to produce both BOPE-LLD and BOPE-HD films strengthens our partner’s position in the growing market for recyclable packaging solutions and highlights how dynamically the Indian plastic industry is evolving toward sustainability.
This marks Toppan’s fifth Brückner line, reinforcing its commitment to developing new film types—particularly for sustainable, monomaterial-based packaging applications.

BOPE – Key Technology for the Circular Economy
Packaging made from BOPE films offers a promising path toward a functioning circular economy, as it integrates seamlessly into existing PE recycling streams. Biaxial stretching significantly enhances mechanical properties and allows efficient downstream processing. Brückner’s hybrid line uniquely combines BOPE and BOPP production, providing manufacturers with maximum flexibility to respond swiftly to evolving market needs.
Prior R&D Trials at Brückner’s Technology Center
Before commissioning the hybrid line, Toppan conducted extensive R&D trials at Brückner’s Technology Center in Siegsdorf, Germany. These trials optimized film properties, explored various BOPE structures for printable, metallizable, and barrier film applications, and produced sample rolls for converting validation.
The trials were carried out in close collaboration with leading global resin suppliers, including several prominent Asian producers. The renowned Japanese parent company, Toppan, also produced pre-samples for customers, underlining the strong international cooperation and shared drive toward innovation in monomaterial packaging.
