Raising the Bar

Advanced stretching technologies form the foundation of high-performance films and demonstrate how continuous development drives real progress.

Stretching plastic films is the key to transforming simple raw materials into high-performance products. Depending on the process, properties such as strength, transparency, and barrier performance can be precisely tailored - while reducing material usage or energy consumption.

Customer Benefits:

All stretching technologies offered by Brückner are proven worldwide and have been successfully used in countless industrial applications. We ensure that you get the most technically suitable and economically efficient solution for your specific film type.

What Happens During Film Stretching?

First, a cast film is produced from polymer granules. Through controlled stretching – either monoaxial or biaxial - the molecular structure of the film is modified. The result:

  • improved strength and stiffness

  • enhanced optical properties (e.g. transparency, gloss)

  • excellent barrier performance

  • reduced thickness with equal or better performance

This makes stretched films a lightweight, efficient, and sustainable alternative to many other packaging materials.

Monoaxial Stretching

Sequential Stretching

Simultaneous Stretching

Ideal for shrink applications - In monoaxial stretching, the film is oriented in one direction only - either machine direction (MD) or transverse direction (TD).

Typical applications:

  • shrink labels

  • sleeves replacing paper labels

Key features:

  • flexible inline and offline solutions

  • suitable for polymers such as PET-G, PVC, PS, and PLA

Best choice when: specific shrink behavior or directional properties are required.

The industry standard - In this process, the film is stretched in two steps: first in machine direction, then in transverse direction. This is the most widely used method worldwide.

Your advantages:

  • high productivity (up to 700 m/min and beyond)

  • large working widths (up to 12 m)

  • proven process stability and reliability

Applications:

  • packaging films (e.g. BOPP, BOPET)

  • technical films (e.g. BOPP-C)

Best choice when: high output and consistent quality are required for standard applications.

Maximum flexibility with LISIM® - Simultaneous stretching means the film is stretched in both directions at the same time. Brückner’s unique LISIM® technology (Linear Motor Simultaneous Stretching) enables exceptional flexibility.

Your advantages:

  • highly uniform and precisely controlled film properties

  • advanced process control through linear motor drive

  • maximum flexibility for a wide range of products

Applications:

  • high-performance packaging films

  • technical films (e.g. battery separators, optical films)

Best choice when: complex performance requirements or maximum flexibility are needed.

Which Stretching Method Is Right for You?

The optimal process always depends on your specific film application:

  • for some products, there is only one technically viable solution

  • for others - such as BOPP capacitor films (BOPP-C) - multiple technologies are available

The key question is: What kind of film do you want to produce - and which stretching method best supports your business case?
