Biaxially oriented polyamide film (BOPA) has convincing properties:

  • Very good stiffness and strength
  • Excellent high barrier properties
  • Wide temperature range

 

These properties make the various products ideal for different applications in multi-layer technology, especially in the food packaging field (e.g. for greasy and oily products).

BOPP film
Polypropylene (PP) has become one of the leading flexible plastics packaging materials and is by far the mostly used polymer for producing biaxially oriented films (BOPP).

Traditional applications are packaging for crisps, snacks, confectionery, noodles or tobacco. New applications are wrap-around and shrinkable labels, high barrier films, synthetic paper. Line layouts for outputs above 6,000 kg/hour, production speeds up to 525 m/min and up to 10m working widths - Brückner is first and foremost in bringing such developments to the market.

In view of its excellent transparency, stiffness, strength and its good barrier properties, biaxial oriented polystyrene (BOPS) film is used today for packaging, especially in the food sector.

Brückner provides various BOPS lines for packaging applications as well as for special thin film applications, e.g. labels, envelope windows, twist wrap.

Capacitor films

PP and PET are the preferred choice of raw material for film capacitors.

The dielectric strength of both is increased considerably by biaxial orientation, inducing a more perfect crystalline formation. Brückner`s vast experience:

 

  • first capacitor film line sold 1970
  • more capacitor lines sold than any other line supplier
  • expertise in both, sequential and simultaneous stretching process

In film stretching lines, the cast film derived from plastic granulate by means of extrusion is stretched in longitudinal and transverse direction to attain the required film dimensions.

This film is then processed either sequentially or simultaneously in order to obtain a very thin, high-rigid end film. Sequential lines first stretch the cast film in machine direction through a system of rollers. Then the film enters the tenter, an oven-like device, which uses two endless chains to grip and stretch the web in transverse direction on diverting rails.

Simultaneous film lines stretch the film in both directions at the same time. The limited yield and inflexibility of mechanical solutions led to the development of LISIM® technology, which uses linear motors driving clips without chain connections. This drive principle allows a new level of freedom to be obtained when manufacturing high quality film in fast and extremely flexible production.

Practically everybody uses them to protect sensitive goods – high-quality oriented films are undoubtedly the number one within the world of packaging material. More and more they are replacing paper, cardboard, tin foil and other materials.

Upon applying a particular process, mono- or biaxial orientation, the films obtain a wealth of advantageous properties, due to a change in the morphology of the film’s molecular structure:

 

  • excellent mechanical properties, e.g. stiffness, tear, shock or puncture resistance
  • impermeability to moisture and steam
  • high resistance to oils, fats and solvents, as well as to heat and cold
  • dimensional stability and scratch resistance
  • attractive glossy appearance, thanks to brilliant surface quality and high transparency
  • excellent convertibility, printability and sealability.

Brückner has developed adequate line layouts based on its unique in-house technology center allowing sequential and simultaneous stretching:

  • optical films, made of COC, COP, PC, TAC or PET: Clean room suitable sequential and simultaneous technologies for the production of these films – mostly used for the fast growing flat panel display market: polarizer film, retardation film and protection film
  • high temperature films: Sequential concepts, based on profound research and development for the processing of PTFE, PEEK or PEI used within the textile industry, for membranes in the medical sector and for flexible printed circuits and insulations

This leads to a greater demand for a variety of speciality films:

 

  • co-extruded multi-layer structures, up to 7 layers for ultra-high barrier
  • shrink film and sleeves for trendy, full body shape labels
  • ultra-high barrier film for lamination
  • BOPA film highly suitable for freezable and cookable (microwavable) packaging
  • mono-axial shrink films for bundles and labels
