LISIM® – a solution for optimal food protection and a functioning circular economy

Around a third of all food produced worldwide is lost. Packaging plays an important role in solving this problem. It helps to protect products from damage in transit, ensure safe delivery to consumers and extend shelf life. For some time now, another important aspect has been added: the circular economy. In this context, PP, PET or PE based mono-materials play a role, especially in solutions that also minimise food loss.

Simultaneously oriented films produced on a Brückner LISIM® line guarantee excellent film properties for various polymers in numerous packaging applications and diverse markets – and thus also contribute to the important areas of food protection and recyclability. Some trendy LISIM® applications, opening new business opportunities in packaging by focalizing on energy saving and circular material management:

  • Low shrinkage/high crystallinity BOPP film, used as temperature-resistant base film in mono-material snack or nut packaging – good recyclability guaranteed
  • Ultra-high barrier film with a high temperature stability for retort applications (heat food in the packaging to kill germs) for increased food safety. Plus the possibility of replacing aluminum foil by a recyclable mono-material solution
  • 7-layer transparent EVOH based BOPP high-barrier film: excellent gas and aroma barrier properties for a longer shelf life and at the same time a lower EVOH share to achieve the “under 5% recycling target”
  • Pressure sensitive labels with a low sealing temperature: ideal for temperature-sensitive food for a longer shelf life of the packaged goods
  • Polyolefin sleeves for a better recycling: The excellent floatability of the simultaneously stretched film ensures a better separation between PET bottle and polyolefin sleeve. The LISIM® process flexibility also fulfills the industry’s high demands regarding shrink properties, optics and raw material reduction

In Brückner’s own technology center future LISIM® specialty films are in development together with partners along the value chain, e.g. BOPP lidding film with improved tear resistance or low shrink ultra-high barrier BOPP films for aseptic composite packaging.

Simultaneous lines stretch the film in both directions at the same time. Brückner’s LISIM® technology (Linear Motor Simultaneous Stretching) uses linear motors driving clips without any mechanical connections – that means a fast and flexible production (not least because of the variable stretching ratios in maschine direction) and at the same time less wear parts, low maintenance. Since 1998, several LISIM® production lines have been successfully in operation. The packaging applications manufactured on these lines convince by

  • Enhanced mechanical properties

  • Downgauging

  • Customized shrink properties

  • Superior barrier properties

  • High sealing properties

  • Superiour optical characteristics
